A Three-Day South Asian Wedding in Historic New England

Fabliha and Omer’s three-day wedding took place across Rhode Island and Massachusetts, with historic New England backdrops framing a celebration deeply rooted in South Asian traditions. The weekend started at Linden Place, then moved to a more intimate vibe with a  family home and ended at the oh so beautiful, Ochre Court.

Their Nikkah took place at Linden Place in Bristol, where Omer’s arrival by Jeep was followed by a spirited negotiation with siblings before he could see his bride, a fun spirited Bengali tradition. For Fabliha, who studied art history, the house offered a particularly meaningful setting for portraits. She had chosen its 1901 painting of Ethel Barrymore as the backdrop for one photograph, placing her own bridal portrait alongside the actress captured early in her celebrated career.

The following day, family and friends gathered at a home in Foxboro for the Gaye Holud/Mayoun. Loved ones helped create the celebration themselves, bringing a personal experience to the festivities that continued through performances of song and dance. Really really fun times. A traditional qawwali band finished the evening in poetry and music.

For the final celebration, guests arrived at Ochre Court in Newport. Fabliha and Omer exchanged vows before their closest friends and family, with the estate providing a dramatic backdrop. Inside, the Gilded Age interiors lent a particular richness to the Walima and reception, as South Asian traditions filled the historic rooms. Dinner by candlelight in the dining room gave way to a party in another of the estate’s grand spaces, bringing the three days to quite a fun close.
